Today, the Red Sox concluded yet another miserable week at 1-5 with a loss to the Mariners and a sweep at the hands of the Blue Jays. The Player of the Week is Cody Ross, who batted .300/1/5 this week and is now .281/20/73 in his magnificent first season in Boston. For his first time this year, Aaron Cook has won the Pitcher of the Week despite losing on Wednesday against the Mariners. Cook went six innings, allowing two earned runs, and is now 3-9, 5.19 this season. The Performance of the Week belongs to Ross on his performance Tuesday night. He went 3-4 and drove in a run in that game. Finally, the Game of the Week goes to the only win of the week when they edged the M's 4-3 in a tight game. In the upcoming week, the Red Sox will face the Yankees at home and the Blue Jays in Toronto.

The Red Sox' season just got more depressing with a miserable 1-6 involving three game sweeps by both the Angels and A's after a win against the Royals. However, one bright spot was James Loney, who batted .316/1/2 in his first week in Boston and is now .258/5/37 this season between the Dodgers and Red Sox. The Pitcher of the Week is Clay Buchholz, who didn't even pitch all that well-- allowing four runs in seven innings in a no-decision against the Angels on Tuesday. That's Buchholz's team-leading eighth Pitcher of the Week Award this year and he's now 11-4, 4.50 this season. The Performance of the Week goes to James Loney's 3-4 night on Friday-- he also drove in a run with his fifth home run of the year. Finally, the Game of the Week obviously goes to the only win of the week when the Red Sox beat the Royals 5-1 on Monday. In the upcoming week, the Red Sox will play three games in Seattle before three more at home against the Blue Jays.

This was a very interesting week for the Red Sox despite only going 2-4, as we watched two players who we've loved greatly (Josh Beckett and Adrian Gonzalez) depart along with Nick Punto and Carl Crawford for Hollywood. It was the right move as the Red Sox are re-inventing the team, but a huge move nonetheless. On the playing side of the spectrum, the Player of the Week for his fourth time is Mike Aviles-- who batted at a .280/2/6 clip this week and is now .254/13/57 on the season. Moving into a tie for second place for the Pitcher of the Year is Jon Lester-- who allowed three runs in seven innings in a win against the Royals Friday and is now 8-10, 4.98 this year. The Performance of the Week goes to Dustin Pedroia's performance Thursday as he went 4-6 with three runs, a homer, and five RBIs in a 14-13 loss to the Angels. Finally, the Game of the Week goes to today's 8-6 roller coaster affair beating the Royals. In the upcoming week, the Red Sox will face the Royals to conclude this series Monday before heading the Los Angeles and Oakland for a three game series in each.

This was a tough week for the Red Sox as they dropped a pair of series: one to the Orioles and one to their hated rivals, the Yankees. However, one bright spot was the work of Dustin Pedroia-- who batted .269/1/4 to boost his season up to .280/10/47 so far as he won his second Player of the Week. For the fourth time this year, the Pitcher of the Week is Jon Lester-- who looked the part of the ace he was supposed to be in allowing just a run over seven innings in New York yesterday. That strong outing improved him to 7-10, 5.03 so far in 2012. The Red Sox didn't have a huge week offensively so Monday's performance by Dustin Pedroia probably goes down as the Performance of the Week. In that game, he went 2-4-- reaching base three times on a walk, double, and single in a losing effort. Finally, the Game of the Week was yesterday's 4-1 affair over the Yankees as the Red Sox coasted to a relatively easy win in the Bronx. In the upcoming week, the Red Sox will take an off day tomorrow before welcoming the Angels and Royals to town for three each.

This wasn't a great week for the Red Sox at 3-4, but they managed to turn it all around with a big win today against the Indians. For his second time this year, the Player of the Week is Adrian Gonzalez. Gonzalez pulled off a fantastic week here, batting a remarkable .393/2/14 and has really turned his season around as he's now batting .309/13/80 after a very slow start for the slugger. Meanwhile, Clay Buchholz continued his push to be the team's ace by shutting down the Indians over a complete game. After his fine performance, his numbers have entered respectability at 10-3/4.20 so far. The Performance of the Week goes to Carl Crawford's performance today against the Indians as he went 3-4 with 2 runs, 3 RBIs, and 3 doubles as he's now .280/3/16. Finally, the Game of the Week goes to today's beat-down on the Indians where they won 14-1 in an all-around great game. Next week, they get an off day tomorrow before heading to Baltimore and New York.

This week went pretty much the opposite as it should have as the Red Sox won a series against the contending Detroit Tigers before dropping one to the fourth place Minnesota Twins in a 3-4 week. For the first time this season, the Player of the Week is Carl Crawford. Crawford appears to have finally righted himself at the plate, as he went .345/2/8 this week and is now .279/3/10 this season. In the pitching department, Clay Buchholz takes the lead with his sixth Pitcher of the Week after going 1-0/1.20/7 in two starts against the Tigers and Twins. Buchholz has finally overcome his rough start to take the team lead in ERA as the righty is now 9-3/4.48/80 this season. The Performance of the Week goes to Carl Crawford's Friday game against the Twins that saw him go 3-5 with two runs and three RBIs, including a home run. The Game of the Week goes to Monday's 7-3 win over the Tigers. In the upcoming week, the Red Sox will play three in Fenway against the Rangers before playing four in Cleveland.

I expected this to be a very rough week for the Red Sox as they were facing the two best teams in the American League-- Texas and New York-- on the road. However, I was pleasantly surprised as they put up a 3-3 week and are now 51-51 this year. For his third time this year, the Player of the Week is Will Middlebrooks-- who batted .435/1/3 this week and is now .300/12/45 this season, as he'd be a frontrunner for AL Rookie of the Year any other season. Now tied for first with his fifth time this year, the Pitcher of the Week is Clay Buchholz. Buchholz's strong seven innings (one run, one strikeout) lowered his ERA below 5.00 for the first time this season, as he's now 8-3/4.93/73 this season and has been the Red Sox' best pitcher since April. The Performance of the Week belongs to Adrian Gonzalez for his 3-5 performance on Saturday. Along with going 3-5, he also had a home run and 4 RBIs. Finally, the Game of the Week was last night's 3-2 extra inning win. In the upcoming week, the Red Sox will take on Detroit for three and Minnesota for four-- both at home.

This was a week of major ups and downs for the Red Sox-- starting off with a great 3-1 series against the White Sox and finishing with a sweep to the (formerly) last place Blue Jays-- a 3-4 week in total. For the first time this year, the Player of the Week is the sizzling Adrian Gonzalez-- who went .428/3/12 this week and is now .296/9/58 this season. For his fourth time this year (second on the team), the Pitcher of the Week is Clay Buchholz. Buchholz went eight strong innings, allowing one run, on Thursday night's game against the White Sox and is now 8-3/5.19/72 this season. The Performance of the Week would be obvious if you've watched the Red Sox this week, but if not, the answer is Cody Ross on Wednesday, when he went 3-5 with two three-run home runs and a double. Finally, the Game of the Week is Thursday night when Cody Ross knocked a three-run walk off home run to conclude the White Sox series. Next week, the Red Sox will have a tough week as they'll head to Texas for three, take a day off, and head to New York for three more.

Triple Weekly News

So it's come to this, the annual Triple Weekly News from when I return from camp-- often deciding the winner of the Yearly Awards. Well, in my absence, the Red Sox didn't do so well-- going 7-10 over the three week period. The Player of the Week may have just wrapped up his Yearly Award for good as David Ortiz won and has now won eight-- compared to three for Mike Aviles. Over the last ten games, Ortiz batted .375/2/4 and is now .315/23/58 this season. An equally deserving Pitcher of the Year goes to Felix Doubront-- who had a good two starts over this time period, going 1-0/3.37/10 in his 10.2 innings of work. Doubront continued his good year and is now 9-4/4.41/97 this season, which is somehow the Red Sox' best pitcher. I cannot decide on the Performance of Game of the Week since I didn't watch them, so I'll skip those-- I apologize. In the upcoming week, the Red Sox will welcome Kevin Youkilis back to Fenway Park in a three game series with Chicago and play a four game set with Toronto at home.

The Red Sox are getting hot-- coming off a 4-2 week, they raised it one with a 5-1 week involving a sweep of the Marlins and series win against the Braves. The Player of the Week, for his second time this season, is rookie Will Middlebrooks. Middlebrooks had a ridiculously good week by batting .625/5/10 and raising his very impressive season stats to .326/9/34 as he should be in the running for AL Rookie of the Year come November. For his tied team leading third time this season, the Pitcher of the Week is Jon Lester. Despite receiving the loss on Friday's 4-1 loss to Atlanta, Lester pitched well by allowing three runs over seven innings. The lefty is now 4-5/4.48/75 in a down year here in 2012. The Performance of the Week belongs to Cody Ross in today's 9-4 win over the Braves. Ross went 2-4 with a pair of home runs and 5 RBIs in leading the Red Sox to a win. Finally, the Game of the Week was Thursday's 6-5 win over the Marlins as the Red Sox put together a three run eighth to edge out the sweep over Miami. In the upcoming week, the Red Sox will play a three game series against the Blue Jays in Fenway before going on the road for four games against Seattle.

The Red Sox were far from dominant this week-- but they managed to quietly pull off a very solid 4-2 week. They won series against the Marlins and Cubs, both after dropping the first game of the series. For his team-leading fifth time this year, the Player of the Week is David Ortiz-- who batted .353/2/5 while continuing his fantastic season of .311/16/43. Clay Buchholz tied the team lead with three awards when he won the Pitcher of the Week after a performance on Tuesday where he allowed a run and struck out nine in a 2-1 win over Miami. Buchholz has recovered from his brutal start and is now 7-2/5.38/55 this season. The Performance of the Week belongs to David Ortiz after last night's game when he went 2-4 with 2 runs, a solo home run, and 2 RBIs. The Game of the Week was also last night as, while it was a bit sloppy, it was exciting as they won 7-4. After an off day today, the Red Sox will head to Fenway to play three game series against Miami and Atlanta next week.

Things appeared to be going strong for the Red Sox entering this week-- they were coming off a 5-2 week that saw them win two series. However, they fell to 1-5 this week, losing a series to the Orioles and being swept by the Nationals. For his first time of the year, the Player of the Week is Jarrod Saltalamacchia-- who batted .278/1/4 this week and is now .266/11/29 on the season. For his second time this year-- and second consecutive as well-- the Pitcher of the Week is Clay Buchholz. Buchholz impressed everybody with a complete game shutout against the Orioles on Thursday night, and is now 6-2/5.77/46 this season. The Performance of the Week goes to Jarrod Saltalamacchia on Monday-- who went 3-4 with a double and a clutch two-run homer as a part of the extra inning 8-6 loss. Seeing as it was the only win of the week, the Game of the Week goes to the 7-0 win on Thursday in which Buchholz threw a shutout. In the next week, the Red Sox will play a pair of series away from home-- a three game set in Miami and a three game set in Chicago.

Despite today's miserable game against the Blue Jays, the Red Sox rattled off a fine 5-2 mark on the week-- going 3-1 against Detroit and 2-1 against Toronto. For his team-leading fourth time this year, the Player of the Week is the ever-impressive David Ortiz. Ortiz batted .384/3/7 this week and has continued to dominate the opposition, adding to his great .315/13/37 season here in 2012. For his first time of the year, the Pitcher of the Week is Clay Buchholz who appears to be turning it around. He allowed two runs in eight strong against Toronto on Friday, but his season stats are still brutal at 5-2/6.58/40. The Performance of the Week goes to the youngster Daniel Nava-- who made his mark with a 4-5, three runs scored, three doubles night against the Blue Jays in Friday's 7-2 win. The Game of the Week will be Wednesday's 6-4 win over the Tigers. The game was tied late but an Adrian Gonzalez RBI double and Kevin Youkilis home run would allow the Red Sox to win. In the upcoming week, the Red Sox have an off day tomorrow before going home for three game series against the Orioles and Nationals.

The Red Sox played a decent week this week-- winning a series against the Orioles and losing one against the Rays in a 3-3 week. For the first time of his Sox.Rox career, and hopefully one of many to come, the Player of the Week is Will Middlebrooks (right), who went .421/0/3 this week. This pushes him to .307/5/18 on the year-- as it wouldn't at all surprise me if he contends for Rookie of the Year. For his team-leading third time of the year, the Pitcher of the Week is Josh Beckett. Beckett went seven innings and allowed just two runs in yesterday's 3-2 win over the Rays-- this moves Beckett to 4-4/4.15/45 in what is shaping up to be a strong season. The Performance of the Week goes to Dustin Pedroia in Monday's 8-6 win over Baltimore. Pedroia went 2-4 with a double, two RBIs, and a run scored as he certainly was a big part of that victory. The Game of the Week is really no contest as last night's walk-off 3-2 win on Salty's homer easily takes the cake for arguably the greatest game of the season. Next week, the Red Sox will stay at home to face the Tigers for four games before shipping up to Toronto to take on the Jays for three.

The Red Sox have been playing much better of late after a 5-2 week puts them at just one game below .500 at 20-21. For his third time of the season, the Player of the Week is Mike Aviles. Aviles played very well this entire week, batting at a .345/3/6 and homering in every game of the Phillies series-- he is now .275/8/27 this season as he is making Marco Scutaro seem much less missed. The Red Sox had an equally strong week on the mound as the Pitcher of the Week goes to Josh Beckett. Beckett had a fantastic week, going 2-0/0.61/14, winning both of starts to become 4-4/4.38/40 on the year. The Performance of the Week goes to Cody Ross on Thursday's 5-3 win over the Rays. Ross went 2-3 with a home run and four RBIs-- as he is now a solid .271/8/28 on the season. The Game of the Week belongs on Monday's 6-1 win over the Mariners. It's just such a rare feat to watch a Red Sox pitcher toss a complete game, but Jon Lester was flat out dominant on his start that night. In the upcoming week, the Red Sox will play three in Camden Yards against the O's, take a much needed off day, and play three back in Fenway against the Rays.

The Red Sox didn't start this week as I'm sure they would have liked to, going 1-3 in the first four, but a three game winning streak and all is forgotten in a 4-3 week. For the first time of the season, Dustin Pedroia (right) is Player of the Week after going .393/2/9 this week-- he is now .319/5/18 as he is having a phenomenal season as usual. The Pitcher of the Week for his second time of the year is Felix Doubront-- who went 2-0/3.65/7 in 14.1 innings this week. Doubront pitched well (especially last night) and is now an impressive 3-1/4.46/37 on the season. The Performance of the Week goes to Will Middlebrooks, who played a great game on Monday in Kansas City. Middlebrooks went 3-5 with a pair of home runs and five RBIs in that game as the rookie is really impressing. The Game of the Week goes to last night as the Sox played a really clean, good game (it doesn't hurt that I was at Fenway!) in all facets and beat the Indians 4-1. In the upcoming week, the Sox will challenge their three-game win streak against the Mariners for two. After that, they will play two in Tampa Bay and three in Philadelphia to wrap up their week.

Just after a dreadful week where the Sox went 0-5, they completely turned it around with a great 6-1 week. They reached .500 but in the loss today fell back to 10-11 on the season. David Ortiz, for the third time this season, is our Player of the Week after batting .320/2/6 to keep his torrid start to the season going at .400/4/18. However, the Pitcher of the Week Award has been less consistent with a different pitcher winning every week and that has kept up this week with Daniel Bard-- who was 2-0/3.83/6 and now is 2-2/3.72/19 on the season. In a week of offense for Boston, the Performance of the Week was tough to pick, but I had to go with Mike Aviles on Tuesday's 11-2 win over Minnesota. Aviles went 4-5 with three runs, two RBIs, two doubles, and a home run. Finally, the Game of the Week was Monday's 6-5 win over the Twins. The Sox took an early lead before giving it up and coming back to win, due in no small part to a pair of homers by Cody Ross. Next week's schedule looks fairly tame for the Red Sox with a three game series against Oakland and a three game series against Baltimore-- both at home.

A rare bright spot this week was Mike Aviles, who was slotted into the leadoff role and excelled to the tune of a .300/0/3 week-- he is now .294/2/5 on the season. The Pitcher of the Week is Felix Doubront, who had an excellent outing yesterday before the bullpen blew things up. He went 6 strong innings, allowing one run and striking out seven-- he is now 0-0/3.94/20 as he has impressed since winning the fourth starter role. The Performance of the Week goes to David Ortiz for the third straight week as he went 4-4 with a run and RBI double as he's gotten off to a hot start this year. The Game of the Week would be Monday's 1-0 loss to the Rays in which Daniel Bard was so good in a close game. Next week, the Red Sox will head to Minnesota for a three-game series against the 5-10 Twins before heading to Chicago to take on the White Sox for a four-game series.

Just on the heels of a tough opening series against the Tigers, the Red Sox really turned it around this week and put together a really solid week. They lost a series in Toronto 1-2 before coming home to Fenway and rattling off three victories in the first three games of this four game series. For the second consecutive week, David Ortiz has been on fire and he continued with a fantastic week-- he went .458/1/8 and is now an excellent .444/1/10 on the season. The Pitcher of the Week will be Josh Beckett, who turned in an excellent performance against the Rays on Friday-- he allowed just a run in eight innings in the win. He is now 1-1/5.68/4 on the season. The Performance of the Week was delivered by David Ortiz in yesterday's ballgame-- he went 4-5 with a game-tying two-run homer and a three-run double to help the Sox in a 13-5 win. Finally, the Game of the Week was Monday's game against the Blue Jays. Jays starter Henderson Alvarez had held the Sox taut for six innings and the Sox entered the ninth in a 2-1 deficit. However, they scored three times off Jays closer Sergio Santos and picked up their first win of the season in comeback fashion. Tomorrow, the Sox will round out the Rays series with an 11:05 game on Patriots Day. After that, they will stay in Fenway to face the Rangers before heading to the Bronx to take on the Yankees.

Of the many things that have changed over the years on Sox.Rox-- the Weekly News will still remain, just as it has since 2009. The Sox suffered a rough week to open the season, getting swept by the Tigers in an 0-3 week. However, one player who stayed tough throughout the week was David Ortiz (right)-- who had a good series-- batting .417/0/2 and barely edging Adrian Gonzalez (.385/1/2). The pitcher of the week is Jon Lester (left)-- who had a very nice performance on Opening Day. He went seven strong innings against the Tigers and allowed just one run in a no decision. The performance of the day goes to Mike Aviles in today's 13-12 loss to Detroit. Aviles had some timely hits and went 3-5 with 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored in a good game. Finally, the game of the week was today's game. Even though it was a heartbreaker with the bullpen blowing leads twice, it was quite a game and it was nice to see the Red Sox' bats get to work. In the coming week, the Red Sox will play a three game series in Toronto (expect a series preview tomorrow) before an off day on Thursday. After that off day, they will head to Boston to face the Rays in a week riddled with AL East opponents.
