Lavarnway Headed To Boston As Youkilis Heads To Ft. Myers

"Bittersweet" is the word that comes to mind when I consider this situation. Our star third baseman Kevin Youkilis who is having another solid year at .266/17/78 is headed to the DL with a sore back. However, there is a silver lining as Ryan Lavarnway will be headed up to the Bigs. This season, split between AA Portland and AAA Pawtucket, Lavarnway is having a fantastic season at .293/30/85. At Pawtucket he has been especially good, as he needed no adjustment time, batting .301/16/47 compared to .284/14/38 at AA. He has been called the best pure hitter in the Red Sox farm system and although he apparently needs some work at catcher, I am very excited to see him. He will bring a breath of fresh air to a slumping Red Sox team that is currently a 1/2 game behind the Yankees and have lost 4 of their last 5. I am extremely excited, and I have very high expectations for Lavarnway.
