Red Sox Very Interested in Erik Bedard

As the Red Sox' interest in Erik Bedard grows, so does mine. He would be basically the most perfect rental that we could get for a not terribly pricey deal. He has been injury-riddled throughout his career, and he has been injured for some time this year. In fact, he comes off the DL tonight and will face the Rays at Safeco Field. The Red Sox scouts will be at tonight's Mariners game, and the Mariners scouts will be at Red Sox affiliates AAA Pawtucket Red Sox and AA Portland Sea Dogs games. The Red Sox are very interested in Bedard, and why shouldn't they be, before going on the DL this year he was 4-6/3.00/85 in 15 starts with the Mariners. He has shown that he can pitch consistently in the AL East, as he pitched for Baltimore from 2002-2007 including a 15-11/3.76/171 season in '06 and a 13-5/3.16/221 season in '07. The Red Sox would have to give up a mid-level prospect to get him, maybe somebody like Alex Hassan or Tim Federowicz could be traded. His contract expires after this year, but if Bedard could pitch like he has in his career (3.64 career ERA) then he would definitely be a huge acquisition for us.
