Average Spot-Big Start

Despite the fact that the Red Sox are only 17-11, which is a pretty good record, but not spectacular, they still have the AL wild card position. They are 2 games above the Tigers, who are 14-12 this year. Tim Wakefield (right) has helped very much with this as he is currently 3-1, and a 2.91 ERA. Beckett has also helped but he is 3-2 with a 6.75 ERA. The offense is warming up as well, but stars Kevin Youkilis and Jacoby Ellsbury are missing from the lineup! Fortunately, there are still Pedroia, Bay, Drew, Varitek, and Green in the lineup! Hopefully, after losing to the Indians, they come back and win the series!

No one Used to Yankee Stadium

After the Red Sox-Yankees game last night, the Red Sox won and proved not even the Yankees are used to their new stadium yet. Jon Lester (right) went 7 innings, struck out 10, and has now improved to 2-2. He started out the season as a #2 starter, and 0-2, but with 3 good starts after that he is 2-2 now! Jason Bay (Player of the Week in Week #1) hit a homer and so did Mike Lowell (Week #3 Player of the Week). They won 6-4, and the Red Sox improved to 16-10, they are still in 2nd place though, but by beating the 3rd place Yankees, they earned a little breathing room.

Weekly News

This has not been the Red Sox' greatest week of the season as they went 3-4 this week and are now 15-10 and in 2nd place. You may think the picture on your right is familiar, well it is, it is Kevin Youkilis's second time as Player of the Week! Congratulations as he is the first person in 2009 to get my award twice... ever! He is now hitting an MLB-leading .407 AVG. This week he hit 1 homer and 7 RBIs and it was in the most clutch of times. As you may have already realized I am going to use the same picture for each Player of the Week for this whole season, so you may want to get used to some of these! Go Red Sox! They are playing a 3 game series in The Bronx next so if they can sweep those Yanks, we have a good chance here!

A New Streak has Begun

The Red Sox have completely deserted their winning ways and now have lost 2 straight against the Rays. Largely they have lost because Evan Longoria (right) has hit homers in both games. I really dislike the Rays, and Longoria is one of my least favorite players, but back to subject: they have lost 2 straight. They are now back in second place at 14-9, the Blue Jays are in first at 16-9. Hopefully Tim Wakefield, who is pitching great this year can help them. Justin Masterson couldn't, despite the fact he was 2-0, and now 2-1, plus Daisuke Matsuzaka is off the DL, which is good. I hope the Sox can at least go 2-2 in this series, the Rays are in last place for heaven's sake!

The Win Streak Has Ended

The Red Sox' former 11 game win streak has now ended as they lost 9-8 to the Cleveland Indians last night. Ben Francisco (right) largely contributed in this by, when the score was 7-4 Red Sox, hitting a 3-run homer to tie it up at 7. Later the Indians pulled ahead and won it, so that ends the Red Sox' amazing win streak. Brad Penny did not pitch well for the Sox, he has thrown some good games, but this was not one of them. Hopefully they can come back tonight and Lester can kill the hot hitting Indians' bats! He is 1-2 and is matched against Fausto Carmona, who is 1-3. I hop ethey can take over the division soon!

Weekly News

The Red Sox are on track so much, they are now on a roll with a 10 game win streak much helped by our Player of the Week: Mike Lowell. This week he hit 2 HRs and 11 RBI, he is now hitting .324 on the season! He leads the league with 22 RBIs, as the 2nd league leader on the team as Youkilis leads the league with a .439 AVG. They have been doing so well, now at 12-6, with a .666 Winning Percentage, and are in 2nd place behind the Blue Jays. This week, they have gone 6-0, as their hitting has come so much more than it has. They have gotten their wins in this order: A's, 1 win, Orioles, 4 wins, Twins, 2 wins, and Yankees 3 wins, as they swept the biggest rivalry in sports. One play in last night's 4-1 victory was Jacoby Ellsbury stole home plate. No Red Sox player has done that since 1994, he just has the best speed in the AL. If they keep their streak when they play the Indians, they will climb fast!

Rivalry Renewed

Last night the Red Sox played the Yankees for the first time this season, this could be the biggest rivalry in sports. The Red Sox won! They were down 4-2 in the bottom of the ninth when Jason Bay hit a 2-run blast to tie it, then they pushed it to the 11th and Youkilis hit a walk-off home run (right)! They won 5-4 and continued their spectacular win streak, as it is now at 8 games. They have hit double digits in the win column too as they are 10-6 and in sole possesion of 2nd place, they are 2 games behind the Blue Jays. The Sox are on a roll, if they beat the Yankees that will crush the morale of the Yankees for when they play at Yankee Stadium on May 4th. Let's go Red Sox, I wonder how this streak will last!

No More Shortstop Problems? Look Again.

Well, Jed Lowrie, our solid shortstop, is injured. Yesterday (4-21-09) Lowrie got surgery on his left wrist, and he could be out for 6-8 more weeks. In the time Lowrie is not playing, Nick Green will, Green is a capable shortstop at defense, not as good as Lowrie though. They are probably equal in hitting. Soon Lugo will be off the DL, I wouldn't mind seeing Lugo after a while, but the Sox just have to remember that Lowrie is their starting guy! I don't expect this to have a huge effect on Lowrie's career, because I think he could win some Gold Gloves in some time, and if he works on it a .300 AVG! Green has been playing very well however and in the 10-8 Red Sox victory, he made it from 8-8 to 10-8, with a 2 run double. I think the Red Sox have a much better shortstop game than they did last year!

Getting Back on Track!

Today the Red Sox finally finished their 4 game series against the Orioles, and they swept them! The Red Sox are now 7-6, their first time above .500 since the first game of the season! They now are tied with the Yankees in 2nd place, behind the streaking Blue Jays, who are at 10-4, and show no signs of stopping. But, the Red Sox played spectacularly in every game of the series as they won 10-8, 6-4, 2-1, and 12-1. Today, Justin Masterson, a questionable starter pitched very solidly and won the game. The Sox have had good pitching all season but it was in this series that the bats really came alive, as they hit several homers and in every game (except for game 3) they scored at least 6 runs, their pitching was strong too (except for game 1) as they gave up no more than 4 runs in any games. The Orioles were looking good at 6-3, and the Red Sox were 3-6. But now the Sox are 7-6, and the Orioles are 6-7, as their bad luck seems to have restarted.

Weekly News

After the second week of the season we are certainly better, at 6-6, this time around. Our Player of the Week is Kevin Youkilis (right) currently as he has truly and an amazing week, and season, with a .467 AVG, 3 HRs, and 9 RBI for the season. As opposed to last week, when they went 2-4, this week they went 4-2! They lost 2 straight against the A's and it was looking grim, but then they won, and are currently on a 4 game winning streak, as they are 3-0 so far against the Orioles. Youkilis has contributed greatly in all of these series in both offense and defense. As for pitching, the wins have gone to Wakefield, Delcarmen, Beckett, and Lester. They have been against Brett Anderson, Jeremy Guthrie, Adam Eaton, and Koji Uehara. They are getting back on track, and about time!
