Weekly News

For once, we have a new Player of the week, congrats to Dustin Pedroia! He tied Kevin Youkilis with 5 RBIs this week, but I figured, he doesn't have one yet, so it goes to him! Pedroia drove in 5 runs this week, along with hitting his 2nd homer of the year. He now is hitting .328 with 2 homers and 17 RBIs. The Sox were 3-4 this week, going 2-2 against the Twins (4-2 on the season series) and 1-2 against the Blue Jays. (also 4-2 on the season series) Today, as the Sox won 8-2, Lester got a career-high in strikeouts, with 12! Next week, they have 2 3-game series against the Tigers and Rangers. Red Sox Fall to Second

Yesterday, the Red Sox lost 6-3 against the Blue Jays and after almost a week of sitting on top of the division, they are back, 1/2 games back from the Evil Empire. The thing that I find the most terrible is that the Jays were on a 9-game losing streak, and the Sox were 3-0 against them. They are still only half a game behind the Yanks though, and they sit on top of the wild card by 1 game. Yesterday, Casey Janssen pitched a good game allowing the Sox' 3 runs and snatching a win. This was also Wakefield's first loss not against the Angels, as he is now 6-3, hopefully Penny can get them back on track in today's game.

Tough Year Continues for Lester

Yesterday as the Red Sox lost 5-2 against the Minnesota Twins, Lester continued his bad year. One bad inning, in which the Twins scored all 5 of their runs bought Lester the loss, despite the fact that he had done great through 4 previously. This was the first Red Sox loss aginst the Twins and they are now 3-1 against them. Tonight it looks grim again as Kevin Slowey (6-1) matches agianst Daisuke Matsuzaka (0-2) who is just back from an injury. I think Lester has to leave the #1 spot in the rotation, I mean for heaven's sakes, he is 3-5, Wakefield and Penny are 6-2 and 5-1, and Beckett is 4-2!

Weekly News

This week's Player of the week has deservingly been Tim Wakefield. He went 2-0 this week, and is now 6-2 with a 3.99 ERA. The Sox had a good week too, going 4-2, 3-0 against the Blue Jays, and 1-2 against the Mets. They are playing the Twins to start off this week. This was an eventful week, as Daisuke debuted for the first time since his injury and lost, Jed Lowrie is rehabbing, and the Sox are in first place! The Yankees are now in second and the Jays are in third. We only have a 1 game lead over the Yankees however, at 27-18. I hope we can keep the good position!

Toronto- A Fluke?

In yesterday's game, the Red Sox outdueled the Blue Jays 2-1. Brian Tallet (right) gave up 2 runs in 6 innings, and earned the loss. I think that the Blue Jays might be a fluke, because in their last 2 series against AL East teams, they have been 1-3, against the Red Sox and Yankees. Getting the win for the Red Sox was, of course, Tim Wakefield, who is now 5-2 with a 3.59 ERA, last year, he was 10-11, so what a comeback. I don't think the Jays will hold their own, and the Red Sox, Yankees, and Rays will challenge them and eventually take control. Pitching tonight is Penny who is 3-1, against Brett Cecil, who is 2-0.

Weekly News

Yet again, our Player of the Week is Jason Bay. This week, he got the equivalent of his first Player of the Week, 2 HRs, 6 RBIs. This was not a week to remember for the Sox, as they went 2-4, with losing series against the Angels and Mariners, each 1-2. On Monday they get a night off, then have no easy week, playing the Blue Jays and the Mets. The Blue Jays are 26-14, and the Mets are 21-15. If the Sox are doing well, they could go 6-0 next week, but I'm think more of a 3-3 or 4-2 kind of record. The Red Sox have had good interleague (against NL teams) records in the past years, so we'll keep our fingers crossed!

Angels Tough for Wakefield

This year, Tim Wakefield (right) has a great record, at 4-2, the bad part is, both losses have come against the Angels. Last night, they lost 8-4 against them, with Wakefield at the helm. The good news is: Daniel Bard had his MLB debut last night, which despite the loss, was a bright spot. Tomorrow, Brad Penny is pitching at 3:35 ET against last year's breakout Ervin Santana (who is 0-0 this year). Santana was 16-7 last year and finished 9th in the Cy Young voting! Penny has come very close in many seasons including 2007. I think Wakefield will get back on track after he has finished with the Angels, and I hope Penny can do what he did last time agianst the Angels!

Congratulations to Jason Bay! He had a spectacular week this week, with 4 homers and 14 RBIs! This is second time being Player of the Week, as he also got it in Week #1. The Red Sox had a great week this week, going 5-2, now they are 20-12 and 1st in the Wild Card spot, they would be in 1st Place, but they are right behind the best record in the AL, the Blue Jays. The Sox really rebounded from a tough week last week, at 3-4. They even beat the Rays 2-1 in a 3-game series, which was impressive. They are also one of the only 4 teams in MLB who have reached 20 wins (Red Sox, Blue Jays, Cardinals, and Dodgers). Both AL teams are in the AL East, too! After a night off on Monday they play the formidable Angels.

Average Spot-Big Start

Despite the fact that the Red Sox are only 17-11, which is a pretty good record, but not spectacular, they still have the AL wild card position. They are 2 games above the Tigers, who are 14-12 this year. Tim Wakefield (right) has helped very much with this as he is currently 3-1, and a 2.91 ERA. Beckett has also helped but he is 3-2 with a 6.75 ERA. The offense is warming up as well, but stars Kevin Youkilis and Jacoby Ellsbury are missing from the lineup! Fortunately, there are still Pedroia, Bay, Drew, Varitek, and Green in the lineup! Hopefully, after losing to the Indians, they come back and win the series!

No one Used to Yankee Stadium

After the Red Sox-Yankees game last night, the Red Sox won and proved not even the Yankees are used to their new stadium yet. Jon Lester (right) went 7 innings, struck out 10, and has now improved to 2-2. He started out the season as a #2 starter, and 0-2, but with 3 good starts after that he is 2-2 now! Jason Bay (Player of the Week in Week #1) hit a homer and so did Mike Lowell (Week #3 Player of the Week). They won 6-4, and the Red Sox improved to 16-10, they are still in 2nd place though, but by beating the 3rd place Yankees, they earned a little breathing room.

This has not been the Red Sox' greatest week of the season as they went 3-4 this week and are now 15-10 and in 2nd place. You may think the picture on your right is familiar, well it is, it is Kevin Youkilis's second time as Player of the Week! Congratulations as he is the first person in 2009 to get my award twice... ever! He is now hitting an MLB-leading .407 AVG. This week he hit 1 homer and 7 RBIs and it was in the most clutch of times. As you may have already realized I am going to use the same picture for each Player of the Week for this whole season, so you may want to get used to some of these! Go Red Sox! They are playing a 3 game series in The Bronx next so if they can sweep those Yanks, we have a good chance here!

A New Streak has Begun

The Red Sox have completely deserted their winning ways and now have lost 2 straight against the Rays. Largely they have lost because Evan Longoria (right) has hit homers in both games. I really dislike the Rays, and Longoria is one of my least favorite players, but back to subject: they have lost 2 straight. They are now back in second place at 14-9, the Blue Jays are in first at 16-9. Hopefully Tim Wakefield, who is pitching great this year can help them. Justin Masterson couldn't, despite the fact he was 2-0, and now 2-1, plus Daisuke Matsuzaka is off the DL, which is good. I hope the Sox can at least go 2-2 in this series, the Rays are in last place for heaven's sake!
