Let's Go Red Sox!

Well, I'm sure we'll all be rooting for the Red Sox today, when they play their first exhibition game! Finally! After almost 5 months of waiting, we get baseball to watch! Today they play a double-header, at 1:05 they play Boston College, and at 7:05 they play the Minnesota Twins! The Red Sox should win this game, the Twins are good but the Red Sox are a lot better. The Twins nearly made the playoffs, the Red Sox nearly made the World Series. Then again, winning doesn't really matter in the first exhibition game of the year!

The New Kid's Ready

Our local new kid, Rocco Baldelli, from Rhode Island is ready for his season to begin. If you remember, he is the man who, in the ALCs against the Red Sox, may have sealed the Rays' win! Now he seems perfectly happy to be playing for the team he grew up cheering for! He does have injury issues however, he was out most of last year with a form of cancer, (just like our buddy, Lester) but got better and played very well. He has some power, some speed, and is a good fielder. I expect with the outfield they've got (Bay, Ellsbury, Drew) he will be a backup, but maybe not.

We're all at camp!

Today, after about a week of just pitchers and catchers (plus Dustin Pedroia and Kevin Youkilis) working out at training camp, the whole squad has started! Today, the Red Sox had their first full-squad workout of 2009! We are very close to exhibition games starting too, they begin on the 25th of the month, then the regular season on April 6th. So far the only main ? is Mark Kotsay, who is not a ? anymore, seeing as we have figured out that he should not be healthy enough to play until May 1st, hopefully that works out, he's a good player. Well, we're in Fort Myer's, I just can't wait to see them in Boston!

Time to go to Camp

Well, today is when the Red Sox' training camp starts! But only for pitchers and catchers, although there are two people practicing who are not a pitcher or catcher... Kevin Youkilis and Dustin Pedroia! Also, Brad Penny looks healthy enough to repeat his 16-4 record in 2007. This is the first step into the regular season, and April 6th is getting closer every day! It is less than 2 months now! So today is when all of the pitchers and catchers in (MLB?) the Recd Sox organization (except the minor-leaguers) come and start they're practices. I can't wait until the regular season! 162 games of happiness, sadness, and fun! But, tomorrow is Friday the 13th, will someone good get injured... No, that wouldn't be unlucky for the Yankees.

A-Rod in Trouble

Well, as most of you know, our "friend" Alex Rodriguez has taken steroids. He tested positive in 2003, so I don't know why they have waited so long. I don't know too much about this case but here is what I know. A-Rod led the MLB in homers in 2007, which I don't know whether is natural of becuase of the use of steroids. I think the reason that he wasn't diagnosed straight away in 2003, but I heard something about them being anonymous about the steroid tests. He is already in trouble, but I hope ( much as I dislike him), that he doesn't become another Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens. That would be pretty bad for him! He only hit 35 homers this year, so he might not take them anymore, but if he does, I'd like to see him with natural power. Many times, I have watched a Red Sox vs. Yankees game and he has come up and slammed one out of the ballpark. What will he get without them? Nobody knows.

The Big Three Starters!

OK, now we've talked about the Red Sox random issues, but let's talk about what they've got. They have 3 awesome starters, Jon Lester, Daisuke Matsuzaka, and Josh Beckett! these guys are amazing pitchers, Beckett dominated 2007, and led the Sox in Strikeouts in 2008, although he was only 12-10 in 2008. Daisuke may not be accurate, may walk a lot of people, but the guy went 18-3, 3 games away from a perfect record! Then there's Jon Lester, the guy threw a no-hitter, threw a 3.16 ERA, and went 16-6! At the back there is Tim Wakefield and a ?, which may be filled by Brad Penny. But with those awesome three starters, they are on route for another winning season!

Shortstop Problem? Try Lowrie!

As they have been for quite a while, the Red Sox have yet another problem at shortstop. They have 2 options, Jed Lowrie and Julio Lugo. Lugo has player terribly for 2 years with the Sox, he hit .237 in 2007 and .262 in 2008, he also has played horrible defense. Lowrie only hit .258 this past season, but his defense is some of the best I have seen. Neither are power hitters, but Lowrie plays much better defense than Lugo. Plus, Alex Cora is a free agent and the Red Sox have not resigned him, making the market small. I say go with Lowrie and keep Lugo on the bench. Lowrie also makes a great double-play partner with second baseman, Dustin Pedroia, I say stick to the Lowrie defense rather than the Lugo... I don't know.

Varitek is back

The long-time Red Sox catcher, Jason Varitek is back! He signed this last Friday with a 1 year, 5 million $ contract! Also, more importantly, Varitek is only the 3rd person in Red Sox history to wear the special C on his jersey. On the bad side, however, Varitek only hit for a .220 AVG this year, with only 13 HR and 43 RBI. If he doesn't get better, they will put in (their other new catcher) Josh Bard. Plus they've got a few minor leaguers like George Kottaras, Dusty Brown, and Mark Wagner. Also, they have to work him a bit less, he played 131 games this year, unheard of for a catcher. A big question is who will catch for Tim Wakefield, my guess is probably Josh Bard, but what do I know?

Introduction

Welcome to Sox.Rox!!! This is my first post, and the birthday is February 3rd! Now for a little description, I absolutely love the Red Sox! The best baseball team EVER!!! So, I am going to be doing stuff about the Sox on this blog. Maybe once baseball season starts, I'll do a Sox-man of the week or something. During the offseason, I will just talk about trades that make us better, and trades that endanger us. An example of something that makes us better is: The Red Sox get Prince Fielder, or something like that. An example of something that endangers us is: The Yankees get Hanley Ramirez, along those lines. Of course, you can get the same information off of the Red Sox website, but if you want a bit of color, maybe you can check out this.
