Lackey Earns Some Run Support With Masterful Start (47-31)

Yesterday, the Red Sox beat the Rays 8-5 to open a 2-game series. John Lackey (right) was very good, allowing 1 run over 7 strong inning and striking out 3, he is now 9-3/4.46/59 as that brought his ERA below 4.50 for the first time in over 10 starts. David Ortiz (.253/17/50) hit a 3-run shot and Bill Hall (.237/6/19) hit a 2-run homer. Jonathan Papelbon finally did something right... and got a save, his 18th of the year. Adrian Beltre (.349/12/52) hit 2 doubles and scored 2 runs in a 4-4 day for him. Jason Varitek (.261/7/16) went 1-3 with 2 RBIs last night. Tonight, Daisuke Matsuzaka (5-2/4.50/43) and Matt Garza (8-5/4.10/78) take the hill tonight as the Sox will look for a sweep. Last night was a good game, I hope the Sox continue the momentum.

V-Mart, Pedroia Go On DL; Buchholz Avoids DL

Clay Buchholz, Victor Martinez (left) and Dustin Pedroia (right) both got injured in the Red Sox' 3-game series in San Francisco. Martinez and Pedroia are going to the 15-day DL and it looks like Dustin Pedroia is going to miss 6 weeks with a broken foot. This is devastating because Pedroia is having a great year (.292/12/41) and is basically the face of the team. Martinez (.289/9/38) is their starting catcher is also a very good player. Luckily, Clay Buchholz (who has been the team's best pitcher this year is going to avoid the DL it appears. Buchholz has done a fantastic job this year, going 10-4/2.45/64 so far, he hyperextended his knee while running the bases. Tonight, the Sox play the Rays and John Lackey (8-3/4.69/56) and James Shields (6-7/4.55/92) will take the hill in Fenway Park. I hope the Sox can recover from injuries and continue their hot streak.

Weekly News

This week the Red Sox lost a series to the Rockies (1-2) and won a series against the Giants (2-1) giving them a 3-3 week. Our Player of the Week is Mike Cameron (right) who had 1 home run and 5 RBIs putting his stats up to .266/1/8 as he has gotten a lot better after his injury. Dustin Pedroia (.292/12/41) and Clay Buchholz (10-4/2.45/64) both got injured this week. Pedroia was placed on the 15-day DL and I don't know what happened to Buchholz. In any case there goes our best hitter and our best pitcher so... we'd better have some pretty darn good replacements! We acquired utility man Eric Patterson today (see in earlier post). Next week the Sox only play 5 games, a 2-game set against the Rays and a 3-game set against the Orioles. The Rays lost today so we are in sole possession of 2nd place and the wild card!!!!

Pedroia Gone, Patterson In

To my loyal readers, I'm sorry I didn't make posts over the past few days but I was backpacking. In any case, Dustin Pedroia was injured with a broken left foot in my absence. But knowing they needed a replacement fast, the Red Sox acquired second baseman Eric Patterson (right) from the Oakland Athletics. So far this year, Patterson is .204/4/9 and A's fans were really giving up on him, which is good because the Sox only needed to give up minor leaguer Fabian Williamson (ever heard of him?). In 5 seasons in AAA, Patterson batted .309 and he adds some speed and a little pop. I hope we see the guy a little. By the way, on Friday the Sox lost and yesterday they won, they are still 2 games back.

Red Sox Ride Pedroia's Homers to Victory (44-30)

Last night the Red Sox beat the Rockies 13-11 in 10 innings. This was a thriller for sure, the Red Sox were ahead 11-9 in the 9th when Jonathan Papelbon surrendered 2 runs to blow his second straight save, he now has 27 strikeouts, 16 saves, and a 3.98 ERA in 30.1 innings. Dustin Pedroia (right) made history last night, becoming the first Red Sox player to homer 3 times in a game since 2004. Pedroia is having a great year at .293/12/41 as he has really been hitting for power. Adrian Beltre (.342/11/51) also hit a home run last night. Tonight, at 9:00 EST, Tim Wakefield (2-5/5.33/44) and Jonathan Sanchez (5-5/2.90/82) square off at AT&T Park. I hope the Red Sox can carry the momentum of this exciting win into the next series.

Red Sox Come Back in Vain (43-30)

Yesterday the Red Sox lost 6-8 to the Rockies. But the Rockies scored 3 runs in the 9th after the Sox had been ahead 6-5 after a comeback of their own. It was 4-0 Rockies, then Daniel Nava (right) smacked a 2-run double into the gap (2-4). The Rockies scored again (2-5). Daniel Nava got another RBI double (3-5). That's what Darnell McDonald hit a game-tying blast that went a good 15 rows up (5-5). Then Marco Scutaro hit a little bloop single to right field (6-5)! And you have to remember, this is all against Ubaldo Jimenez and we added 45 points to his ERA! Good work Red Sox! But Jonathan Papelbon could not hold the lead... Tonight, Daisuke Matsuzaka (5-2/4.59/37) and Jason Hammel (5-3/4.03/52) as the Sox will look to avoid the sweep.

Red Sox Interested in Everett

Apparently, the Red Sox are looking at shortstop Adam Everett (right). A couple of weeks ago, the Tigers released Everett after opening the season at .185/0/44. He has never been an offensively-oriented player, but he is a very good defensive shortstop. It looks like the Red Sox would not make this move, however, unless a roster spot was emptied. Maybe Mike Lowell? Everett was actually drafted by the Red Sox in the 1998 amateur draft but was traded for Carl Everett. If they make this move, Everett has to hit.

Red Sox Lose Nailbiter (43-29)

Last night, the Sox snapped their 6-game winning streak with a 1-2 loss to the Rockies. Jon Lester (right) was very good, allowing 1 run in 6 innings, he is now 8-3/3.03/102 as he is having a great season. Mike Cameron had a good day, going 2-4 with an RBI as he is doing a lot better than he was doing before the injury, he is now .268/0/3 as he is still looking for the first home run... he had 25 last year. Adrian Beltre went 2-3 with a double, he is now .340/10/48 as he has been awesome this year. Tonight, John Lackey (8-3/4.53/49) and Ubaldo Jimenez (13-1/1.15/88) as they get to see the, without question, best pitcher in baseball. I hope the Sox can come back and win the series!

Weekly News

Last night the Red Sox beat the Dodgers 2-0 completing their second straight sweep in a 6-0 week for them. David Ortiz (right) won his team-leading 4th PLayer of the Week with 3 home runs and 7 RBIs. Ortiz is having a good year at .260/15/46. The best thing about this week is that the Rays and Yankees had tough weeks, the Red Sox started the week in 3rd place, 4 games back and are now tied with the Rays for second place and are only 1 game back. The Sox have a 6 game win streak and have won 8 of their last 9 as they ultimately have been fantastic recently. Next week, the Red Sox travel to Denver to take on the Rockies from Tuesday to Thursday, then they go to San Francisco. In case you haven't noticed, this will be the first time the Red Sox have played a game on the west coast all year. I hope the Sox can continue the momentum and get into first place!

J.D. Drew's Injury Not Too Bad

On Friday, J.D. DRew hurt his hamstring making a running catch in the 3rd inning of a game against the Dodgers. Drew says that he doesn't think he hurt himself very badly and he should be back Tuesday against the Rockies in Denver. He will sit out tonight against the Dodgers like he did yesterday. Yesterday, Bill Hall started in right field and made two errors, however, so he might not be the best option. So far this season, J.D. Drew is a respectable .276/8/37 with his always high OPS this year standing at .826. I hope Drew recovers and plays well like he has the past few years.

Red Sox Enjoy Walk-Off Win (42-28)

Today the Sox beat the Dodgers in style with a 5-4 walk-off victory. Dustin Pedroia (right) applied the necessary heroics that scored Daniel Nava from 2nd base with 2 outs in the 9th inning. Pedroia is doing great lately, he is now .277/9/36 this year as he is having a fantastic homestand. Tim Wakefield allowed 3 earned runs in 6.1 innings and is now 2-5/4.33/44 as he has gotten a lot better as on May 7th his ERA stood at 6.23. Kevin Youkilis (.306/15/47) and Victor Martinez (.293/9/37) both hit home runs, they are both having good years. Jonathan Papelbon earned his 2nd win of the season today. Tomorrow night, Clay Buchholz (9-4/2.67/58) and Hiroki Kuroda (6-4/3.10/61) will start on ESPN. If the Sox win tomorrow night, they will have had a 6-0 week.

5th Inning Keeps Sox Winning (41-28)

Last night the Red Sox beat the Dodgers in a high-scoring 10-6 victory. It was Felix Doubront's major league debut, he was not spectacular but he got the job done, throwing 5 innings and allowing 3 earned runs. He is now 1-0/5.40/2 after his first start. David Ortiz (right) had a 2-run home run and is now .268/15/45 as he is really heating up after that tough April. J.D. Drew (.276/8/37) had a solo home run and Adrian Beltre (.339/10/48) had another 2-run shot. Dustin Pedroia continued his hot streak, going 2-3 with an RBI last night. The best thing about last night is that, yet again, the Rays and Yankees lost, and now the Red Sox are only 1 game back! Tonight, Tim Wakefield (2-5/5.42/38) and Vicente Padilla (1-1/6.65/23) take the hill. I hope the Sox can pitch a little better than they did last night, and hit the same way!

Red Sox Successfully Pull Off Sweep (40-28)

Last night, the Red Sox beat the Diamondbacks 8-5, thus sweeping the Diamondbacks. The best thing was that the Rays and Yankees both lost, putting the Red Sox only 2 games back at 40-28! Marco Scutaro (right) had a great game, nabbing 3 RBIs and a double in a 2-4 night. David Ortiz had a 2-run homer, he is now .266/14/43 as he is on a roll, that was his second homer of the series. Kevin Youkilis, Adrian Beltre, and Daniel Nava all had 1 RBI. John Lackey had a solid game, allowing 3 earned runs over 6 innings, he is now 8-3/4.53/49 as he has not been spectacular but he has gotten the job done this year. Tonight, the Red Sox play the Dodgers and Felix Doubront (0-0/0.00/0) and Carlos Monasterios (3-1/2.98/19). Let's prove that we're better without Manny!

Offense Backs Lester in Win (39-28)

Last night, the Red Sox beat the Diamondbacks 6-2 in another well-balanced, effective win. Other than a 2-run shot by Justin Upton, Jon Lester (right) was very good, allowing only 2 runs (on the homer) over 7 frames and he is now 8-2/3.13/96 as he and Clay Buchholz have both been very good this year. Dustin Pedroia hit his first home run in long time, a 2-run homer, he is now .271/9/34 as he is on a streak for sure. Kevin Youkilis got a 2-run homer as well, he is now .318/13/43 as he is having a great season so far. J.D. Drew and Adrian Beltre each had an RBI as well. Tonight, John Lackey (7-3/4.54/44) and Dan Haren (7-4/4.61/97) as the Sox will go for a sweep. The Yankees and Rays both lost last night so the Sox are only 3 games behind now!

Doubront To Start on Friday

Today, the Red Sox confirmed that Felix Doubront (right) will take Daisuke Matsuzaka's spot in the rotation and pitch on Friday against the Dodgers. It will be Doubront's major league debut, the Sox are playing the rookies as on Saturday Daniel Nava made his major league debut. Daniel Nava has been doing great at .364/1/5 although 4 of those RBIs came on the first pitch of his career! Manager Terry Francona said that pitching coach John Farrell was impressed by Doubront's performance in spring training. So far this year in the AA Portland Sea Dogs, Doubront has gone 4-0/2.51/38 as he has been quite good. I hope Doubront can take advantage of this start and set himself up for future starts at the major league level.

Red Sox Win Well-Balanced Game (38-28)

Last night the Red Sox beat the Diamondbacks 6-3, it wasn't the most memorable game but, hey, it went in the win column. Clay Buchholz (right) went 5.2 innings, allowing 3 runs, but the good part was that he struck out 8! Buchholz has been very good this year and is now 9-4/2.67/58 as he has been the unsuspected ace of the staff this year. David Ortiz had a 2-run homer and he is now .257/13/41 as he now leads the Sox in home runs. Dustin Pedroia, Victor Martinez, and Kevin Youkilis each had 1 RBI and rookie Daniel Nava scored a run. Today, Jon Lester (7-2/3.18/89) and Rodrigo Lopez (2-5/4.45/49) pitch. I hope my birthday present is a Red Sox win! (yes, today is my birthday)

Today, the Red Sox lost 3-5 to the Phillies, getting denied the sweep and giving them a 4-3 week. David Ortiz (right) moved to the front of the pack with his 3rd Player of the Week as he had 0 homers and 6 RBIs. Papi is now .251/12/39 as he and Kevin Youkilis share the team lead with 12 home runs. The hot Yankees won again today and have tied the Rays for first place. So we are 4 games behind those two teams and sitting in 3rd place in the AL East despite having the 4th best record in baseball. Next week, the Sox play the Diamondbacks and Dodgers at Fenway as Manny Ramirez will return to Fenway for the first time since the trade that brought Jason Bay to Boston. On Tuesday, Clay Buchholz (8-4/2.52/50) and Ian Kennedy (3-3/3.17/71) as both pitchers are having good years and it could be a good game. The Sox are on a roll, let's take advantage of the Rays' scuffling.

Red Sox Getting Hit Hard By Injuries

Yesterday, Daisuke Matsuzaka (right) was scratched with right forearm tightness and couldn't make his start. He has been put on the 15-day DL, now the Sox have Matsuzaka, Jeremy Hermida, Jacoby Ellsbury, and Josh Beckett on the DL. So far this year, Matsuzaka has been decent, going 5-2/4.59/37 after missing most of April. To replace Matsuzaka on the roster, left-handed relief pitcher Dustin Richardson has been called up from AAA. In 2009, Richardson made 3 relief appearances allowing no runs on 3 hits in 3.1 innings. Scott Atchison made the start yesterday, but I don't know who will untimately fill in for Dice-K in the 4th spot in the rotation. So far the Sox have been doing well despite injuries, let's keep it that way!

Nava's Historic Debut Leads Sox to Win (37-27)

Yesterday the Red Sox pounded the Phillies for the second straight time, beating them 10-2. Daniel Nava (right) played in his first major league game today and the first pitch he saw in his major league career, he turned around for a grand slam! That is the way to begin your career! Daisuke Matsuzaka was supposed to start but he was scratched with tightness in his right forearm, he was forced on the 15-day DL. The Red Sox have really been hit hard by injuries but are still 37-27 and 4 games behind the Rays. Instead of Matsuzaka, Scott Atchison started instead and allowed 2 runs in 3 innings, he is now 0-1/4.76/12. Today, Tim Wakefield (2-4/5.48/35) and Cole Hamels (5-5/3.98/70) start at 1:35. The Sox have been pounding the Phillies so far, let's keep up the good work!

Another One Bites the Dust

Yesterday, Jeremy Hermida (right) was forced onto the DL. Thus another left fielder goes down with a rib injury caused by a collision with third baseman Adrian Beltre. So far this year, Hermida is .217/5/27 in 45 games for the Sox this year, but he has been extremely good in clutch situations. The injury is a "deep bone bruise" but he was listed with fractured ribs. He has been restricted from all baseball activities and shuld be practicing for the return to MLB in a few days. The Red Sox also released reliever Joe Nelson (0-0/9.72/9) and brought Scott Atchison (0-1/4.50/10) back from AAA Pawtucket. I hope Hermida comes back healthy because he has been a valuable acquisition.

Moyer's Worst Career Start Good Enough for Red Sox (36-27)

Last night the Red Sox creamed the Phillies 12-2, they scored 12 runs in the first 3 innings and chased Jamie Moyer out of the game by the 2nd inning. David Ortiz (right) had 4 RBIs in a 3-5 evening, he is now .247/12/39. Mike Lowell got a rare start and immediately capitalized with a 2-run homer, he is now .230/2/12. The Red Sox hit a season-high 8 doubles, by Adrian Beltre, Marco Scutaro, Jason Varitek, and Dustin Pedroia; and 2 doubles by Victor Martinez and David Ortiz. John Lackey had a very good start, allowing 2 runs in 7 innings, he is now 7-3/4.54/44 as he has been respectable this year. The Red Sox raised Jamie Moyer's ERA 1.05 points! Today, at 4:10, Daisuke Matsuzaka (5-2/4.59/37) and Joe Blanton (1-4/6.07/22) as the Red Sox will try to once again dominate the Phillies.

Red Sox Unable to Protect Leads (35-27)

Last night, the Red Sox lost 7-8 to the Indians, the frustrating thing was that they lead by leads of 5-0 and 7-6 but Daniel Bard was unable to come through in the 9th. Jon Lester had a tough start, allowing 6 runs in 6 innings and he is now 7-2/3.18/89 as he has been good this year. Losing 5-6 in the 9th, Adrian Beltre (right) hit a 2-run shot to give them the lead, as he has been great at .332/8/42. Victor Martinez also had 2 RBIs and Marco Scutaro scored twice as they both had a good series. Tonight, the Sox play the Phillies and John Lackey (6-3/4.72/41) and Jamie Moyer (6-5/3.98/33) toe the rubber in Fenway. The Sox need to win badly!

Red Sox Crushed by Ex-Teammate (35-26)

Last night the Indians dominated the Red Sox in basically every way possible in a 0-11 rout. Clay Buchholz (right) was not bad for the Red Sox, he allowed 3 runs in 7 innings and is now 8-4/2.52/50 as he has been very good this year. The Red Sox simply did not hit in last night's game. They managed 2 hits off of Justin Masterson, who threw his first career shutout. Victor Martinez went 1-3 and J.D. Drew went 1-3 as this was simply an embarrassing loss. Tonight, Jon Lester (7-2/2.73/81) and Mitch Talbot (7-4/3.54/32) as this could be a good pitching game. I hope the Sox can rebound from last night's loss and win the series 3-1.

Wakefield Acheives History With Magnificent Start (35-25)

Last night the Red Sox beat the Indians 3-2 and Tim Wakefield (right) got the Red Sox record in innings pitched (2776.1) with 7.1 innings of 2 run ball. He is now 2-4/5.48/35 as he has not been too sharp this year other than a few good starts. In the 4th inning, there were 2 outs and no one on base when Victor Martinez lifted a deep fly ball to center field that came to the warning track where Trevor Crowe was waiting... and he botched it! That inning should have been a 1-2-3 inning, but the Sox rallied after the error and scored 3 times. Tonight, Clay Buchholz (8-3/2.39/49) and former Red Sock Justin Masterson (1-5/5.46/55) take the hill in Cleveland tonight. The Sox have at least a series tie, but we want a sweep!

Red Sox Draft Vitek in First Round

Yesterday was the MLB draft, the Red Sox had the 20th pick and they selected second baseman Kolbrin Vitek (right). Dustin Pedroia is a great second baseman so the Red Sox will not be looking to replace Pedroia, but they will move Vitek to third base. Adrian Beltre (.330/7/40) has been great but he is only signed for this year so Vitek will be their future third baseman. Vitek has been described to have "near perfect fundamentals and a great natural swing." In his 3 years at Ball State, Vitek has batted .359 with 35 home runs whihc is quite good, but he is still using the metal bats. In the sandwich pick (36th) they picked outfielder Bryce Brentz who has hit .348 with a .636 slugging percentage this year. In the 39th pick, they got former top-ranked pitcher, Anthony Renaudo. He had a major injury but if regains his former form he will be an incredible steal for the Sox. Overall this has been a good draft, I think, we may see these guys in a few years.

Martinez' Return to Progressive Field a Success (34-25)

Last night, the Red Sox beat the Indians 4-1, on a great performance by Daisuke Matsuzaka (right). He allowed 0 runs and struck out 5 over 8 innings and is now 5-2/4.59/37 as he has been alright so far this year. Marco Scutaro had a great game, going 3-4 and recording a career high 3 doubles in a game, he is now .285/4/16 as he has raised his batting average 25 points in the last 9 games. This was Victor Martinez's first time in Progressive Field since July 31 of last year when he was traded to the Red Sox and he went 2-4 and is now .298/8/30. Tonight, Tim Wakefield (1-4/6.02/29) and David Huff (2-6/6.08/22) will start for their respective teams. I hope the Sox can win again, they are solo in 3rd place!

Today, the Red Sox lost 3-4 in 11 innings to the Orioles, thus finishing their week at 4-2. They are now 33-25, tied for 3rd place with the Blue Jays, and 4.5 games behind the Rays. Kevin Youkilis (right) is our Player of the Week as he had 2 homers and 9 RBIs this week, he is now .320/12/38 as he improved a little bit this week. Victor Martinez (.294/8/29) had a nice week with 1 homer and 5 RBIs including a 5-5 game on Monday as over this week he upped his batting average 37 points. Jon Lester (7-2/2.73/81) and Clay Buchholz (8-3/2.39/49) continued their dominance, winning all 3 of their starts this week. Next week, the Red Sox play the Indians in a 4-game series and the Phillies in a 3-game series. My prediction for the Sox next week is 5-2, 3-1 against the Indians and 2-1 against the Phillies... but that's just me!

Key 9th Keys Win (33-24)

Yesterday the Red Sox beat the Orioles 8-2, plating 6 runs in the top of the 9th inning. Kevin Youkilis (right) led the charge, going 3-5 with 3 RBIs and a homer, as he is now .320/12/38 as he has been ery good this year. Jon Lester threw 6.1 shutout innings, improving his record to 11-0 against the Orioles. He is doing quite well this year as he is now 7-2/2.73/81, but Clay Buchholz has been even better. Darnell McDonald (.276/3/16) and Bill Hall (.253/5/14) each had 2 RBIs and Marco Scutaro (.279/4/16) had 1 RBI. Today at 1:35, John Lackey (6-3/4.95/39) and Brian Matusz (2-6/5.28/50) as the Sox will look for a sweep. The Red Sox are approaching the Rays as they are only 3.5 games back at 33-24.

Red Sox Pound Orioles (32-24)

Last night, the Red Sox just flat out creamed the Orioles, by a score of 11-0. Clay Buchholz (right) was amazing, tossing his 5th straight win and his second career shutout. He is now a very good 8-3/2.39/49, those are Cy Young numbers. He already has more wins than he had all of last year. The Red Sox hit 3 homers, a 3-run shot by Kevin Youkilis (.312/11/35) and solo shots by Adrian Beltre (.333/7/40) and Marco Scutaro (.276/4/15). J.D. Drew had 2 RBIs on a first inning double, and Victor Martinez had one. Tonight, Jon Lester (6-2/2.97/77) and Jeremy Guthrie (3-5/3.84/37) as it looks to be a better pitching matchup. I hope the Sox can play like they did last night, only 4.5 games behind the Rays!

Great Hitting Not Enough For Red Sox (31-24)

The Red Sox definitely were able to hit today but they couldn't do the finer aspects of baseball in an 8-9 loss to the A's. Tim Wakefield (right) allowed 6 runs in 6 innings as he is now 1-4/6.02/29 as he has not been sharp this year. Bill Hall had a great game, going 4-5 with a home run, as he is now .253/5/12 as he has been extrememly versatile and (in my humble opinion) a great acquisition. Another new acquisition, Jeremy Hermida, went 3-5 and is now .218/5/27 as he has also been a good acquisition with the injuries of Mike Cameron and Jacoby Ellsbury. Marco Scutaro hit his 3rd home run of the year in a 1-5 day for him. Tomorrow night, the Sox travel the Camden Yards and Clay Buchholz (7-3/2.73/47) toes the rubber against Chris Tillman (0-0/3.18/3). I hope the Sox can come off a series win vs the A's well!

Plenty of Options For a Lowell Trade

The Red Sox may be thinking of trading third baseman Mike Lowell, and they certainly have plenty of options to do that. The best of those options would be outfielder David DeJesus (right) who is having a good season at .300/4/22 so far for the Royals. The Pirates would trade the Red Sox Ryan Church (.202/2/9), the Indians would trade Austin Kearns (.282/3/22). The Cubs have some very nice players who we may see in a Red Sox uniform, such as Alfonso Soriano (.299/9/27), Xavier Nady (.263/3/13), or Kosuke Fukudome (.293/6/23). Of those 3 players, I would most want to have Fukudome because he has a smaller contract than Soriano. I'm open to trading Lowell, as long as they get someone good in return.

Dice-K Bounces Back in Good Start (31-23)

Last night, the Red Sox beat the A's 6-4 on a good start by Daisuke Matsuzaka (right). Matsuzaka allowed 3 runs in 6.2 innings and is now 4-2/5.49/32 as he has gotten better without a doubt. David Ortiz had a go-ahead home run as he is now .275/12/33 as he is getting off on the right foot in June. By the way, David Ortiz won the Player of the Month in May and Jon Lester won the Pitcher of the Month. Kevin Youkilis also had 2 RBIs in a 1-4 night as he is a good .302/10/32 as he also has improved from a tough April. Martinez, Beltre Lead Charge in Comeback (30-23)

Last night, the Red Sox came back from a 0-4 deficit to beat the Oakland A's by a score of 9-4. John Lackey struggled through 6 innings, allowing 4 runs, but still earned the win because of offense, he is now 6-3/4.95/39 as he hasn't been too great. Victor Martinez (right, left) had a remarkable game, going 5-5 with 2 RBIs and a run. Adrian Beltre (right, middle) had a great 3-run blast that sparked the comeback in the 5th inning, pushing the score to 3-4. Kevin Youkilis (right, right) went 2-4 with an RBI single. Bill Hall got a triple in last night's game, but he also walked 3 times! In tonight's matchup, Daisuke Matsuzaka (3-2/5.77/25) and Ben Sheets (2-3/4.91/51) square off in Fenway Park. I hope the Sox can come together like they did last night, although it would be better if they weren't behind in the first place!
