Series Preview #2: Red Sox (0-3) @ Blue Jays (2-1)
The Red Sox will be looking to right the ship on the heels of their opening series sweep by the Tigers. They will do so against a team that many are predicting could be one of the bigger surprises in the league this year: the Toronto Blue Jays. The first game of the series will take place tomorrow night at 7:05 when Felix Doubront (3-5/3.96/74 in 20 games in AAA) will face Henderson Alvarez (1-3/3.53/40). Even though Doubront had a strong spring, I think Alvarez could be one of the up and coming young pitchers in the league but I expect the Red Sox offense to make this game a close one but the Jays to pull it out. In Tuesday's game, Daniel Bard (3-9/3.33/74) will make his first career start against Kyle Drabek (4-5/6.06/51) and if Bard can pitch even moderately well, the Sox should win this game. In the series finale, there will be what would normally be a marquee pitching matchup with Jon Lester (15-9/3.47/182 in 2011, 0-0/1.29/4 in 2012) against Ricky Romero (15-11/2.92/178 in 2011, 0-0/7.20/4 in 2012). However, the Red Sox have owned Romero to a tune of a 7.12 ERA and a 4-6 record while Lester is 10-4 with a 3.06 ERA against Toronto. Because of this, I'd expect the Sox to beat the Jays in the finale and rubber match. Bold Prediction: Red Sox win series 2-1.
