Red Sox Nab Bedard On Last Minute Move
This could be a huge move for the Red Sox; right about as the clock trickled out, the Red Sox made a huge 3-team deal that gave them starting pitcher Erik Bedard. Bedard has pitched worth a 4-7/3.45/87 line in 2011, and has pitched like an ace in the AL East in the past. It cost the Red Sox Tim Federowcz, one of the best defensive catchers in the minor leagues, who is one of the players I mentioned in my last post about Bedard. Many teams came off of Bedard after he had a horrible start on Friday, allowing 5 runs in 1 1/3 innings. However, if he can pitch like he has for most of this year, it could be a huge acquisition. With Clay Buchholz injured and Lackey, Miller, and Wakefield rounding out the rotation, he could come a long way in providing a viable 3rd or 4th starter for the playoffs. This is big, I am really glad the Sox could do something like this, high-five, Theo!
