Beckett's Season Doesn't End Too Well (87-71)
Last night the Red Sox lost 2-5 to the White Sox as Josh Beckett (right) closed his season on a pretty disappointing note. Beckett pitched 6 innings, allowing 4 runs, he is now 6-6/5.76/116, as he hasn't been good this year. Mike Lowell hit a solo home run, he is now .226/5/24. David Ortiz also had an RBI, he is now .268/32/102, as he has been really good this year. The Red Sox stay in Chicago for a 4-game series so the last game will have Jon Lester (19-8/2.96/220) and John Danks (14-11/3.74/156) pitching. I hope the Sox can tie the series tonight.

Double Hundreds, Buchholz Dominates (87-69)
Last night, the Red Sox beat the White Sox by a score of 6-1 as Clay Buchholz (right) really dominated. Buchholz went 8 innings, allowing only 1 run, he is now 17-7/2.33/120, as he has been great this year, he absolutely deserves the Cy Young. Both David Ortiz and Adrian Beltre reached the 100-RBI plateau, as they each had 2 RBIs. Victor Martinez also had two RBIs in a good night, as he went 3-4. Tonight's pitchers will be John Lackey (13-11/4.51/141) and Edwin Jackson (9-12/4.53/169). I hope the Sox can clinch a series win tonight.

Weekly News
Last night the Red Sox lost to the Yankees 3-4, so no sweep but we did win the series and end up 3-3 on the week. They (somehow) lost a series to the Orioles but then managed to beat the Yankees in a 3-game series. Our Player of The Week is David Ortiz (right) who won his 9th Player of the Week after hitting 1 home run and 6 RBIs, he is now .263/31/98, as he has been pretty good this year. Jon Lester had a great game, going 7 shutout innings this week. John Lackey had another good start, going 7 innings and allowing only one run. Tonight, we travel to Chicago and Clay Buchholz (16-7/2.39/115) and Mark Buehrle (12-12/4.27/93) will be pitching. I hope the Sox can at least cut it close because our playoff hopes are basically dead.

And Stay In Second, Yankees! (86-68)
Today, the Red Sox beat the Yankees by a score of 7-3, thus keeping the Yankees in second place. Jon Lester (right) was brilliant, allowing no runs and only 2 hits in 7 innings, he is now 19-8/2.96/220, as he has been really good this year. J.D. Drew (.260/20/65) and Victor Martinez (.299/19/74) each hit solo home runs today. David Ortiz went 2-4 with 2 RBIs, he is now .265/31/98, as he has been very good this year. Marco Scutaro and Ryan Kalish each also had RBIs today, as the Red Sox played pretty well against the Yankees. Tomorrow, at 8:05, Daisuke Matsuzaka (9-6/4.86/120) and Dustin Moseley (4-3/4.94/28) will pitch. I hope the Sox will sweep the Yankees, that would be awesome.
Goodbye First Place, Yankees! (85-68)
Last night the Red Sox beat the Yankees 10-8 in a high-scoring affair at Yankee Stadium. This win knocked those Yanks out of first place! Josh Beckett was not very good, but he had enough run support to get the win, he allowed 5 runs in 6.2 innings and is now 6-5/5.77/111 as he has not been very good. Jed Lowrie (right) went 3-4 with a 3-run homer, he is now .282/7/20. Bill Hall went 1-4 with a 3-run homer, he is now .242/18/45. Today, at 4:10, Jon Lester (18-8/3.06/212) and Ivan Nova (1-0/4.11/23) will pitch. If the Red Sox sweep the Yankees then we may have a chance.

Red Sox Avoid Sweep (84-68)
Last night the Red Sox beat the Orioles 6-1 to avoid a sweep from the worst team in baseball, as they've been pretty bad lately. John Lackey was stingy, allowing 1 run in 7 innings, he is now 13-11/4.51/141. David Ortiz (right) had a great game, he went 2-3 with 4 RBIs, including a 3-run homer, he is now .261/31/96. Josh Reddick and Adrian Beltre both also had 1 RBI, Reddick's by way of the home run. On Friday, the Sox travel to New York to attack the Yankees, as this will be a key series. Josh Beckett (5-5/5.71/106) and Andy Pettite (11-2/2.81/92) will take the hill. If the Sox sweep the Yankees it will at least give them a chance.

Red Sox Unable To Hold Tie Against O's (83-67)
Last night the Red Sox fell 2-4 to the Orioles, as it was a very tough game. Daisuke Matsuzaka (right) was good for most of the game, but he surrendered a late rally, and ended up allowing 4 runs in 6.1 innings, he is now 9-6/4.86/120, as he has been ok this year. Victor Martinez had a pretty good game, he went 3-4 with 1 RBI, he is now .296/18/73. Bill Hall also had an RBI in a 1-3 game, he is now .239/17/42, he everything except the batting average has been great this year. Tonight, Clay Buchholz (16-7/2.48/110) and Brad Bergeson (7-10/5.03/73) will take the mound in Fenway. I hope the Sox can reverse and win the series.

Weekly News
Today, the Red Sox beat the Blue Jays 6-0, finishing their week with a 4-2 record, and pushing their season record to 83-66. Our Player of the Week is Victor Martinez (right) who had 3 homers and 9 RBIs this week, he is now .289/18/72, as he has been pretty good all year, but especially in September. The Red Sox got to 4-2 by sweeping the Mariners and losing a series 1-2 to the Blue Jays. The biggest event of the week was David Ortiz hitting his 30th home run with a man on in the 8th to give the Sox the lead against the Mariners. Jon Lester made two great starts this week, allowing 1 run in 13 innings combined, he is now 18-8/3.06/212, as he has been great all year, including an All-Star appearance. I hope the Sox can at least cut it close, not be out by 10 when the year ends.
Bad Call Costs Red Sox Game (82-66)
Last night the Red Sox lost 3-4 to the Red Sox on a bad call to Ryan Kalish. Leading off the ninth, Kalish roped a homer around the pesky pole, but they called it foul. Then, Kalish was picked off after he hit a single, Victor Martinez proceeded to hit a triple next so we would have at least tied it if he hadn't gotten picked off or had that bad call. Josh Beckett (right) allowed 4 runs, 3 earned in 7 innings, he is now 5-5/5.71/106, as he's been pretty bad this year. Today, Jon Lester (17-8/3.17/208) and Shaun Marcum (12-7/3.58/151) will pitch. I hope the Sox can avoid the sweep today.

Red Sox Unable To Come Back (82-65)
Last night the Red Sox lost 9-11 to the Blue Jays but they came back as they were down 2-10. Victor Martinez (right) had a great game, going 2-5 with 5 RBIs, he is now .291/17/71, as he has been pretty good this year. John Lackey was not very good, he allowed 7 runs in 4.1 innings, he is now 12-11/4.63/137, as he has been painfully average. Darnell McDonald went 2-3 with 2 RBIs, he is now .273/9/32, as he has been pretty good this year. Josh Beckett (5-4/5.83/102) and Ricky Romero (12-9/3.72/162) will pitch tonight. The Red Sox swept the Mariners, I hope they can win a series against the Blue Jays.

Papi Hits #30, Red Sox Seal A Winning Record (81-64)
Last night, the Red Sox beat the Mariners 9-6 as they played a good game. Daisuke Matsuzaka was not too sharp, he allowed 5 runs in 6 innings, he is now 9-5/4.82/116. David Ortiz (right right) hit a 3-run homer, which happened to be his 30th on the season, he is now .262/30/91, as he has been pretty good this year. Jed Lowrie (right left) also had a homer and 3 RBI, he is now .258/6/16, as he has also been doing pretty well this year. Josh Reddick, Victor Martinez, and Ryan Kalish each had 1 RBI. Clay Buchholz (15-7/2.53/104) and David Pauley (2-7/4.39/37) will pitch tonight at 6:40 EST in Seattle. I hope the Sox can sweep the Mariners.

Lester Spectacular In Win vs. Mariners (80-64)
Last night, the Red Sox beat the Mariners 5-1 and Jon Lester (right) was very good. He allowed 1 run in 8 innings, along with 12 strikeouts, he is now 17-8/3.17/208, as he has been great this year. Ryan Kalish hit a 2-run homer last night as he is on a roll, he is now .252/4/20. Josh Reddick, Lars Anderson, and Daniel Nava each had 1 RBI, as the runs for the Sox came from RBIs by rookies. Tonight, Daisuke Matsuzaka (9-5/4.70/113) and Luke French (4-5/3.90/29) will square off in Seattle. The Sox have won the first game of the series, I hope they can continue that in the next one... or two!

Weekly News
Today, the Red Sox beat the A's by a score of 5-3, concluding their week at 3-3. Our Player of the Week is Ryan Kalish (right) who concluded the week with 1 homer and 8 RBIs, he is now .248/3/18 as he has been respectable this year. Victor Martinez also had a good week, he had 1 homer and 6 RBIs, he is now .295/15/63 as he has been pretty good this year. Josh Beckett and John Lackey had ok starts against the A's, Beckett allowed 3 runs in 6 innings, and Lackey allowed 3 runs in 7 innings, they are now 4-4/5.83/103 and 12-10/4.45/134. I hope the Sox can at least end the year on a good note.
Lowell To Retire After 2010
Earlier today, Mike Lowell confirmed suspicions that he was going to retire after this season. Mike Lowell's mobility has noticeably diminished because of problems with his hips, he has made trips to the DL twice this year. This year has not been his best either, as he is only .226/4/21. Mike Lowell is a fan favorite due to his great years in 2006 and 2007, including a World Series MVP in 2007 when they swept the Rockies. I wonder if Mike Lowell will become a broadcaster or something like that after his career like Kevin Millar and Nomar Garciaparra. Right now it is the second inning in the Red Sox game and the score is 0-0.
A's Rally Unravels A Win (78-64)
Last night the Red Sox lost to the Oakland A's by a score of 3-4. John Lackey (right) was great through 6, but then the A's rallied and he ended up allowing 3 runs in 7 innings, he is now 12-10/4.45/135 as he has been ok this year. Marco Scutaro (.274/11/53), Adrian Beltre (.324/27/96), and Ryan Kalish (.248/3/16) each had one RBI, Marco Suctaro's by way of the home run. Josh Beckett (4-4/5.91/95) and Dallas Braden (9-11/3.47/97) will pitch today at 4:05 EST. I hope the Sox don't get swept because they are down 0-2 in this series.

Buchholz Can't Do Anything In Loss (78-63)
Last night the Red Sox lost to the A's, 0-5, as the Sox didn't play very well. Clay Buchholz (right) was very uneffective, allowing 5 runs in only 1 inning, as he was pulled because he couldn't even get an out in the second inning, he is now 15-7/2.53/104 as, as a general rule he has been great this year. The Red Sox didn't have any RBIs because Trevor Cahill was very good, but Victor Martinez, Adrian Beltre, and Josh Reddick at least got hits last night. Tonight, John Lackey (12-9/4.48/128) and Brett Anderson (4-6/2.97/55) will pitch in Oakland at 9:05. I hope the Sox can come back to win the series.

Red Sox Rout Rays, Take Series (78-62)
Last night the Red Sox took a series with some very similar games, winning 11-5. The first game of the series was 12-5, the second was 14-5, and at last, last night's 11-5. Marco Scutaro (right) had a great game, going 4-5, and having two home runs and 3 RBIs, he is now .275/10/52 as he has been good this year. Victor Martinez (.294/15/63) and Adrian Beltre (.323/27/95) were nearly identical, both going 2-4 with a home run and 2 RBIs. Josh Reddick had 3 hits and Lars Anderson hit his first MLB hit as the rookies chipped in. Tim Wakefield was not spectacular, allowing 4 earned runs in 5 innings, but he got the win, and is now 4-10/5.26/77. Tonight, the Red Sox travel to Oakland, and Clay Buchholz (15-6/2.25/103) and Trevor Cahill (15-6/2.72/94) as two pitchers with very similar numbers will pitch. I hope the Sox can take or sweep a series in Oakland.

Complete Reverse Of Series Opener (77-62)
Last night the Red Sox got completely suffered a dominant loss to the Rays, by a score of 5-14. Daisuke Matsuzaka was... horrible, allowing 8 runs in 4.2 innings, he is now 9-5/4.70/113, as as a general rule, he's been pretty good this year, but not last night. Victor Martinez went 2-2 with a 2-run double, he is now .292/14/61. Darnell McDonald (right) hit a home run in the eighth inning to top off his 2-3 day, he is now .276/9/32. Jarrod Saltalammachia and Jed Lowrie both also had 1 RBI. Tonight, Tim Wakefield (3-10/5.19/73) and Matt Garza (14-7/3.46/133) will pitch in Fenway. I hope the Sox can take this series, but with Wakefield pitching, it seems unlikely.

Red Sox, Kalish, Slam Rays (77-61)
Last night the Red Sox completely blew out the Rays, beating them 12-5. Jon Lester was pretty good, allowing 2 runs in 6 innings, he is now 16-8/3.26/196 as he has been really good this year. Ryan Kalish (right) hit his second grand slam of the season last night! Kalish is now .247/3/14 as he has been pretty impressive since coming up from Pawtucket. David Ortiz went 2-3 with a home run and 3 RBIs, he is now .262/28/87. Victor Martinez had a 2-run single, he is now .288/13/59. Last night was also Lars Anderson's major league debut, unfortunately, he went 0-4. Tonight, Daisuke Matsuzaka (9-4/4.29/109) and David Price (16-6/2.92/161) will pitch. I hope the Sox can win and hopefully sweep this series.

Weekly News
Earlier today, Jonathan Papelbon blew another win, and the Sox lost 5-7 to the White Sox, concluding their being swept. Our Player of the Week is Victor Martinez (right), who had 2 home runs and 6 RBIs this week, he is now .289/13/55 as he is having an ok season by his standards, this is his first Player of the Week. This was a 2-4 week for the Red Sox as they are picking the worst possible time to be cold, as they stand 10 games back of first place and 8 of the wild card. Josh Beckett had a pretty good start today, allowing 3 runs in 6.1 innings, only one earned, he is now 4-4/5.91/95 as he has been a major disappointment this year. Tomorrow, the Sox play the Rays, Jon Lester (15-8/3.27/186) and Jeff Niemann (10-5/3.97/107) will pitch. The Sox are going to miss the playoffs, I'm sorry, hopeful fans, but it's true.

Red Sox Lack A Win In Nightcap (76-60)
Earlier tonight, the Red Sox lost to the White Sox by a score of 1-3... again, for the second time in today's double-header they lost 1-3. John Lackey (right) had a pretty good night, he allowed 3 runs in 7 innings, only one was earned, however, he is now 12-9/4.48/128 as he brought his ERA below 4.50. Also similar to today's game, Marco Scutaro got the RBI that was the only run the Sox scored, he went 1-5 again! He is now .272/8/49 so a small improvement from this afternoon. Tomorrow at 1:35, Josh Beckett (4-4/6.21/86) and Mark Buehrle (12-10/3.95/77). I hope the Sox can avoid the sweep tonight, we're 10 games back though, we can't do too much worse.
Red Sox Unable To Hit Danks (76-59)
Earlier today, the Red Sox lost 1-3 to the White Sox. Clay Buchholz (right) was pretty good, but not good enough, he allowed 2 runs in 5 innings, he is now 15-6/2.25/103 as he has been awesome this year. The Red Sox's one RBI belonged to Marco Scutaro, who went 1-5, and is now .273/8/48, as consistency has been the word for him this year. Bill Hall went 2-4 and Jed Lowrie went 1-2 with 2 walks as they both also had good games. Tonight.... in fact as I write this... John Lackey (12-8/4.60/121) and Gavin Floyd (9-11/3.86/139) are to pitch. The Red Sox are not going to make the playoffs unless they literally win every game left.

Red Sox Close Out Series Win (76-58)
Last night the Red Sox beat the Orioles 6-4 to win the series 2-1. Daisuke Matsuzaka did not pitch very well, allowing 4 runs in 5.2 innings to earn the win, he is now 9-4/4.29/109. David Ortiz (right) had a good game, going 2-4 with 2 RBIs, he is now .262/27/82 as he is having a good year. Adrian Beltre went 1-3 with a home run, he is now .321/25/92 as he is really having a great year. Ryan Kalish and Mike Lowell both had 1 RBI last night. Tonight, the Red Sox go back to Boston to face the White Sox and Clay Buchholz (15-5/2.21/101) and John Danks (12-9/3.65/135) will pitch tonight. The Sox probably won't make the playoffs but if they do they will need to be amazing.

Offense Ends Three-Game Skid (75-58)
Last night, the Red Sox came back to beat the Orioles 9-6. Jon Lester was not very good, but he got the win, he allowed 5 runs in 6 innings, he is now 15-8/3.27/186. Adrian Beltre (right right) hit a 3-run homer which really sealed the win, he is now .321/24/91. Marco Scutaro hit a two-run homer, he is now .274/8/47. Ryan Kalish, J.D. Drew, David Ortiz (right left), and Victor Martinez each had one RBI. Taking the hill tonight are Daisuke Matsuzaka (8-4/4.19/103) and Brad Bergeson (6-9/5.55/61). The Red Sox stay 8 games behind in the division and 7 in the wild card.

There Goes The Season (74-58)
Last night the Red Sox lost 2-5 to the Orioles, and basically, if the Red Sox can't beat the Orioles, they can't beat anyone else. Josh Beckett was not bad, allowing 2 earned runs, and 3 in all in 7 innings, he is now 4-4/6.21/86. The Red Sox's two runs came on a 2 RBI home run by Jed Lowrie, who went 2-3 and is now .287/4/11 as he has been an above average replacement. Tonight, Jon Lester (14-8/3.12/176) and Jake Arrieta (4-5/4.90/37) will pitch. The Red Sox seriously need to win a lot of games if they want to make the playoffs.
