Tazawa Has Impressive First Start

Last night the Red Sox beat Detroit, 7-5, giving rookie starter Junichi Tazawa his first career win. Tazawa gave 3 runs in the first (only one of them being earned), a bad start but, it did not pan out that way. In the second inning, Kevin Youkilis was clunked by a pitch and charged the mound, getting himself ejected, bringing Mike Lowell in as a replacement. Also in the second, Jason Bay hit a 3-run blast over the monster, tying it at 3-3. Later, Mike Lowell hit a pair of homers. While all this was happening, Junichi Tazawa (after the first), allowed no runs, two hits, and 6 Ks, in a 5 inning masterpeice. The Rangers and Rays lost, while the Yankees won, the Sox are 64-48, 5.5 games behind the Yankees, but 1.5 games ahead of Texas for wild card, and 3.5 ahead of the Rays!

  1. It was a difficult game for the Sox having both Youkilis and Francona ejected from the game! Mike Lowell really "stepped up to the plate". Nice to hear that Tazawa is off to a great start.

  2. Man, that was a dust-up! Even the normally placid Francona got booted! But the Sox came back and did the job. Hats of to Tezawa too.
